Bon Secour Storm Surge Around Refuse Sign. Debris washed ashore by storm surge of Hurricane Ivan surrounds an entrance sign of Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. Located at the Jeff Friend Trail parking lot, debris from beach houses located on the Gulf of Mexico on washed across Little Lagoon, through employee housing at the refuge and across Fort Morgan Road. The refuge along with Little lagoon are located west of Gulf Shores, Alabama. Date of photo is September 18th, 2004.

 Damage to primary dunes at Bon Secour NWR is extensive. These dunes are critical habitat to endangered beach mice populations.

Bon Secour Ivan Storm Surge Erosion. Receding flood waters from Hurricane Ivan leave behind damage to the boardwalk at Bon Secour National Wildlife Refuge. Located at the foot of Mobile Lane, the end of the boardwalk was torn away when winds and a rising storm surge came ashore on the Alabama coast. Also flattened was the dune field which normally protected the interior of the refuge from wind and wave action from the Gulf of Mexico.		 Hurricane Ivan poster
