"NEVER A SILENT SPRING" TO BE AIRED IN CONJUNCTION WITH

             1997 INTERNATIONAL MIGRATORY BIRD DAY

In conjunction with this year's celebration of International Migratory Bird Day, a popular 20-minute video entitled "Never a Silent Spring" will be broadcast nationally next month (May 1997) on PeachStar Satellite Network and on Georgia Public Television (GPTV). This highly acclaimed video, which has been enthusiastically received in schools and colleges, nationwide, recounts the story of this century's dramatic loss of huge populations of North American songbirds. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service production was created in 1985 by an award- winning television producer and videographer.

The Fish and Wildlife Service and other sponsors of International Migratory Bird Day, being celebrated Saturday, May 10, 1997, are also asking avid birders, wildlife biologists, and ornithologists to share their passion for birds with area residents of all ages and encourage groups in their communities to sponsor an event to celebrate the return of spring and the return of millions of migratory birds to their nesting areas. This celebration is the annual hallmark event of Partners in Flight, an international coalition of public and private sector organizations. Items such as banners, T-shirts, posters, pins, patches and stickers can be ordered by event organizers. An information folder with ordering information can be obtained through Dr. Richard Coon at (404) 679-7193 or via electronic mail to Richard_Coon @mail.fws.gov.
