North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) (Standard Grants) ($51K - $1,000K)

Designed to result in partnerships for wetlands restoration, management or acquisition for waterfowl and other migratory birds.

1:1 federal to non-federal match required; most projects now have 2:1 match.

Competitive internationally (US, Canada, Mexico)

Open to private and public organizations, individuals, States and federally-recognized tribes engaged in partnerships for wetlands conservation to benefit migratory birds.

Twice a year, usually in early March and June.

North American Wetlands Conservation Act (NAWCA) (Small Grants - may not exceed $50K)

Designed to result in partnerships for wetlands restoration, management or acquisition for waterfowl and other migratory birds.

1:1 federal to non-federal match required; most projects now have 2:1 match.

Some priority given to partners that have never participated.

Competitive internationally. (US, Mexico, Canada)

Open to private and public organizations, individuals, States and federally-recognized tribes engaged in partnerships for wetlands conservation to benefit migratory birds

Opens once a year, usually in March.

Landowner Incentive Program

Benefits private landowners who desire to undertake habitat protection and restoration for species at risk.

25% State to 75% Federal match (max).

Private Stewardship Grant Program

Benefits private landowners who desire to undertake conservation practices on private lands for federally-listed endangered and threatened species, proposed, candidate or other at risk species.

10% (inkind or funding) private to 90% federal. Specific criteria apply.

Allocation to Regions by Formula.

 

Competitive regionally.

Private landowners; conservation organ-izations, community organizations, counties, or local governments working with private landowners.

Fall

Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Fund

Designed to support neotropical bird conservation in U.S., Latin America, and Caribbean, as well as for international cooperation.

25% private to 75% federal.

Note: 75% of funding is for projects outside of the U.S.

Competitive nationally.

Conservation organizations, States, corporations, individuals.

Annually

Cooperative Endangered Species Conservation Fund (Section 6 of Endangered Species Act). Four Major Programs described below (1 - 4) in the next four rows: 

1. Conservation Grants (Traditional Section 6 Grants)

Provide funding to States to implement conservation projects for listed and non-listed species, such as habitat restoration, species status surveys, public education and outreach, captive propagation and reintroduction, nesting surveys, genetic studies and development of management plans.

Match required; no federal money may be used for matching funds; 25% non-Federal cost-share; or 10% when two or more States implement a joint project; Territories are exempt from matching requirements.

Formula to Regional Offices.

States or Territories that have entered into Cooperative Agreements with the Service for endangered and threatened species conservation.

Once a year. Interested partners are encouraged to contact the appropriate State program.

2. Habitat Conservation Planning (HCP) Assistance

Program provides funding to States to develop HCPs, including document preparation, outreach, baseline surveys and inventories.

25% State to 75% federal. If two or more states are working together, then 10% private to 90% federal.

3. Habitat Conservation Planning (HCP) Land Acquisition

Funds land acquisition that compliments responsibilities in existing HCPs, that has benefit for listed, proposed or candidate species or that has ecosystem benefits for these species.

25% State to 75% federal. If two or more states are working together, then 10% private to 90% federal.

4. Recovery Land Acquisition

Provide fundinq to States to acquire habitat for federally listed endangered and threatened species.

Match required; no federal money may be used for matching funds; 25% non-Federal cost-share; or 10% when two or more States implement a joint project; Territories are exempt from matching requirements. Additional eligibility and ranking criteria apply to this program.

Clean Vessel Act

Is designed to help States construct pump-out and dump stations to dispose of vessel sewage from recreational boats.

To support assessments to determine risk associated with unintentional introductions and intentional import of species to the U.S.

Assist the development and implementation of programs for the benefit of wildlife and their habitats on tribal lands.
