The
U.S. Climate Change Technology Program.
The U.S. Congress passed
the Energy Policy Act in 1992. Title XVI, Section 1605(b), of this legislation
directed the Department of Energy to develop voluntary accounting rules
and guidelines to reduce, avoid, or sequester greenhouse gases. The
Secretary of Energy established a Cabinet-level Committee on Climate
Change Science and Technology Integration, and included the Secretary
of the Interior. The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service represents the Secretary
of the Interior on a subcommittee – the Interagency Working Group
on Climate Change Science and Technology – charged with pursuing
a broad range of strategies to address the important issues of global
climate change.
