In November 2009, Jennifer Strickland and Stacy Shelton spent a week in the Florida Everglades and Keys talking to more than two dozen scientists, conservationists, refuge managers, and project leaders about Florida panthers, scrub-jays, melaleuca, and the future impact of sea level rise. They walked through the history of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service at Pelican Island National Wildlife, road in airboats and helicopters at A.R.M. Loxahatchee NWR, attended a meeting of the Key Deer Protection Alliance on No Name Key, and poked inside the evidence room at the Law Enforcement Office near the Miami airport. Their quest: to find out how a Landscape Conservtion Cooperative might work in Peninsular Florida.
