WEST BEAR CREEK UNIT HUNTING REGULATIONS
The hunting of only geese, ducks, coots, and moorhens
is permitted on designated areas of the refuge subject to the following
regulations or as otherwise posted:
- The daily quota shall be filled by reservations.
Any spaces that remain will be awarded through a lottery drawing held
at 9 p.m. the evening prior to the hunt at the Salt Slough check station
located on Wolfsen Road. Those arriving after the lottery will
be allowed to hunt if there are spaces available, on a first-come, first-served
basis. Permits can be obtained through the Department of Fish
and Game's reservation and check station procedures.
- Hunters may possess or use not more than 25 federally-approved
nontoxic shotgun shells after leaving parking lot.
- Vehicles may stop only at designated, assigned parking
areas. The dropping of passengers or equipment, or stopping between
designated parking areas is prohibited.
- All permits must be completed and deposited in the
iron ranger located at the main entrance kiosk immediately upon completion
of your hunt, before using any tour routes or leaving the refuge vicinity.
- Construction of permanent blinds is prohibited.
Hunters may use only portable blinds, temporary blinds constructed of
natural materials or permanent blinds provided by the FWS. The
cutting/breaking of woody vegetation is prohibited.
- All portable blinds, decoys, and other personal equipment
must be removed from the refuge each day. Hunters are assigned
to a specific pond and are not allowed to enter other ponds or zones.
Within the assigned pond or zone, hunters may use a non-motorized boat
to transport personal equipment within their assigned pond or as a portable
floating blind.
- The use of motorized boats is prohibited.
- Use or possession of alcoholic beverages while in the
field is prohibited.
- Fires are prohibited. Fishing is prohibited. Littering
is prohibited. Please remove all empty shotgun shells from
the field.
- A maximum speed of 25 mph is strictly enforced.
- Hunters must possess valid hunting licenses, stamps,
and area permits while in the field.
- Shoot times (a half hour before sunrise until sunset)
are posted at the check station. Shoot days are Wednesdays, Saturdays,
and Sundays.
