Upcoming Tours and Special Events

October 14th and 20th: National Wildlife Refuge Week Nature Walks at San Luis NWR
In honor of National Wildlife Refuge Week and to formally initiate a schedule of upcoming weekend birding and nature walks on Refuge nature trails, the San Luis NWR will be hosting two guided nature walks; the first on Sunday, October 14th at 9 a.m., and the second on Saturday, October 20th at 9 a.m. A USFWS staff member will lead the walks and convey information about the Refuge and its wildlife. Each walk will begin at 9 a.m. and last one to two hours. The tours will be also be a great opportunity to explore the new Visitor Center on the San Luis NWR.

No reservation or rsvp is necessary for the nature walks; simply meet at the San Luis NWR Visitor Center located at 7376 S. Wolfsen Road, Los Banos, 93635. For more information or directions, phone the San Luis NWR at 209/826-3508 or email Jack Sparks (jack_sparks@fws.gov).

 

October 27th: Crane Day at the Merced NWR
Celebrate the return of the Sandhill Cranes to Merced County by visiting the Merced National Wildlife Refuge on October 27th for the Crane Day birdwatching tours. As in previous years tours will be by bus and space is limited. The first tour will depart at 10:00am and will last approximately 1.5 hours. A second tour will depart at noon. Space is limited on the bus, so reservations are encouraged; seats remaining after reservations have been called will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
