Status:
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
is developing a Comprehensive Conservation Plan (CCP)
and an environmental assessment (EA) for the Seal Beach
NWR. Background information about the Seal Beach NWR,
an overview of the CCP process, and other information
about the National Wildlife Refuge System are all provided
in Planning Update 1 (posted to the left).
Public scoping began in March 2007 and public scoping
meetings were held on Tuesday, April 3, 2007.
The purpose of the scoping process is to identify potential
issues concerning wildlife and habitat management on the
refuge, day-to-day refuge operations, interactions with
our neighbors, and coordination with Naval Weapons Station
Seal Beach. Initial comments were due Friday, May 18, 2007, however, we encourage you to continue to provide comments
throughout the process.

Purpose
of CCP:
As part of the National Wildlife Refuge System, the Seal
Beach NWR is required to have a CCP in place to guide
the management of fish, wildlife, plants, habitats, and
public uses for a period of 15 years.
