Fish for Fun

Due to the hurricanes, the 2005 Fish for Fun Rodeo was cancelled. However, the 2004 Fishing for Fun Rodeo was a huge success! Twelve hundred catfish were donated by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries & Parks and were released in the pond 3 days prior to the event. [We will once again receive the same number of catfish approximately 3 days prior to this year's event.]
Participants averaged 12 to 15 fish each, with the winners of the "Most Fish" award in each age category catching over 40 fish each. Prizes were awarded in two age categories for Most Fish, Biggest Fish and Smallest Fish. There was also a casting contest held throughout the event.
It was an exciting day watching those corks disappear almost as soon as they were cast into the water! By 11:00am, weigh-in was complete, prizes had been awarded, and parents were dreading the upcoming hours of cleaning fish!
We would like to thank the Friends of St Catherine Creek Refuge for providing refreshments and prizes for the participants as well as volunteers to help with the event! Without their support, this event would not have been possible.
