Hunters with Disabilities
Special accommodations exist on all five refuges that permit hunting (Sacramento NWR, Delevan NWR, Colusa NWR, Sutter NWR, and Sacramento River NWR). Visit this link for more information on the mobility impaired waterfowl hunter access procedures.

Sacramento and Delevan NWRs each have three spaced blind sites designated for hunters with mobility impairments. Those sites may be accessed by motor vehicle or ATV.

Colusa and Sutter NWRs each have one assigned pond that has a blind site and boat access for hunters with mobility impairments.

Sacramento River NWR, Sul Norte Unit has a 1/2 mile packed gravel trail with a hunting blind developed for turkey and deer hunting and is available on a first-come, first-served basis seven days a week. For additional access needs, please contact the Refuge Manager.

Free roam areas on refuge sites are accessible via walking, wheelchair, or by any other non-motorized conveyance. Small boats without motors or with electric motors may be used for access and to transport hunters with mobility impairments to retrieve downed birds. Boats may only be launched at DESIGNATED locations along roads which are open to the public. (See maps) Vehicles and trailers must then be parked in a refuge parking lot before hunting.

Standard entry procedures will be followed for access.
Hunters need to apply through the CDFG (California Department of Fish and Game) reservation system to reserve a blind or hunt site for the disabled. If a hunter is not drawn for a reservation, he or she may still enter the lottery or the first-come, first-served line and will be processed in a separate line for the accessible blinds only.

For more information about the hunting program on the Complex, including entry procedures, please see our hunting information page.
