Come witness the magnificence of the Sacramento NWRC's wintering waterfowl as our Refuge naturalists guide you through various activities. Activities are geared for a variety of ages. Check the schedule below for activities, dates, and times. Please contact the Complex if you would like to be notified when programs are announced in the fall. Please note that additionalspring programs including spring bird walk have been cancelled due to sequestration and tight budgets. We appologize for the inconvience. January 24-27, 2013 - Snow Goose Festival, Chico, CA
The Pacific Flyway ranks as one of the greatest migratory pathways in the entire world. Millions of birds representing hundreds of species use this great avian highway each year. Nowhere is this abundance of wildlife more accessible than right here in the Northern Sacramento Valley. A local favorite among these is the majestic Snow Goose. With the estimated overall population of Snow Geese exceeding five million. So it is with these things in mind that we once again invite you to come and rediscover this magnificent spectacle of nature through wildlife field trips, presentations, activities, workshops, junior naturalist activities, a wildlife art exhibit, banquet and silent auction and more!
March 2013 - Junior Duck Stamp Competition
Students from across the state of California participate in this national event to create waterfowl artwork to learn about waterfowl, habitat conservation, and art. The Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge is the state receiving site for the artwork. The deadline to mail in your entry is March 15. For more information, visit our Junior Duck Stamp page.
April 2013 - Godwit Days, Arcata, CA
Extraordinary birding opportunities await you at the annual Godwit Days spring migration bird festival. May 2013 - Endangered Species Faire, Chico, CA
For more that twenty-five years the Butte Environmental Council has hosted what has become Northern California’s largest and longest running environmental educational fair. Join the annual Endangered Species Faire held in Cedar Grove in Bidwell Park from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
July 13-14, 2013 - Pacific Flyway Decoy Association, Sacramento, CA
The annual Wildlife Art Festival will take place at the Double Tree Hotel in Sacramento. Whether your interests are carving, collecting, fine art, hunting, fishing, or bird watching, this year's classic will bring you closer to the world of original wildlife art. The California Junior Duck Stamp Reception will take place on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
September 2013 - Brush Up Day, Sacramento and Delevan NWRs
Do you enjoy hunting at the Refuges? Bring your family, friends, waders, and work gloves and help Sacramento and Delevan NWRs clean up the hunting blinds for the upcoming hunting season. More information will be available in late August.
November 2013 - Sandhill Crane Festival, Lodi, CA
For many years, Lodi's Sandhill Crane Festival has celebrated the return of the cranes. Each year thousands of visitors make their way to Lodi area wildlife refuges and farmlands to experience first hand one of nature’s spectacles. The abundance of crane habitat continues to nourish our agricultural roots, with water, soil, and climate that sustains the birds, enriches our lives, and benefits our local economy.
