Make a Species List & Letter
Make an species list for a specific area within our jurisdiction.
Instructions
- If you have not already been to our main species list information page, go there now. Pay particular attention to the note about how we make the lists. These are not simply lists of species in an area.
- In order get a list for a U.S. Geological Survey 7½ minute quad, you must know the number of the quad. See our instructions for getting this information.
- If you know the quad name but not the number, see our lookup page. For your convenience, the page will open in a new window.
- You can also use the lookup page to make a quick list for one quad.
- If you are getting a list for consultation with the Service, see our Action area (PDF | RTF) page.
- After you create the list, you will have the option of creating a personalized official letter to go with it.
We can only make lists for areas within our service area:
The Central Valley, San Francisco Bay region, Western Sierra Nevada, California side of the Lake Tahoe Basin and Lassen County.
You can get official online quad and county lists for northwestern California from the Arcata Fish & Wildlife Office.
The Klamath Falls office has an online species list request form for Modoc and northeast Siskiyou counties. However, it is only for actions carried out, funded or authorized by federal agencies.
The Ventura office has unofficial online county lists for the central coast and the area from the Mohave Desert up to Mono Lake.

Select California counties and/or U.S. Geological Survey 7.5 minute quads from the lists below. Then hit the Make Species List button below the lists.
