Consultation & Technical Assistance
People, agencies and other entities who may impact protected species or habitat need to contact us before taking action.
Four branches of our office do endangered species consultation and technical assistance. These four geographic branches are Sacramento Valley, San Joaquin Valley, Coastal and Forest-Foothills.
We serve the Central Valley, San Francisco Bay, Lassen and western Sierra areas of California. See more information about our jurisdiction.

The Red Bluff Fish & Wildlife Office also does certain kinds of consultations in the northern Sacramento Valley (see below).
San Joaquin Valley Branch (916) 414-6630
Service Area:
- San Joaquin/Tulare Valley floor up to 1500' in Stanislaus, Merced, San Joaquin, Amador, Calaveras, Tuolumne, Mariposa, Madera, Fresno, Tulare, Kings and Kern Counties.
- The Carrizo Plain in San Luis Obispo County.
- Fish-related projects in the Sacramento San Joaquin Delta are handled by the Coast Bay Delta Branch.

Service Area:
- Sacramento Valley floor up to 1500' in Shasta, Tehama, Glenn, Butte, Colusa, Sutter, Yuba, El Dorado, Placer, Nevada, Yolo and Sacramento Counties, and in the Sacramento River basin of Siskiyou County.
- Valley elderberry longhorn beetle projects in Lake, Napa and Solano counties.
- The Red Bluff Fish & Wildlife Office handles endangered species
consultations with Shasta-Trinity and Mendocino National Forests, Whiskeytown National Recreation
Area, and the Bureau of Land Management Redding Resource Area.

Service Area:
- Napa, Sonoma, Marin, Lake, Solano, San Francisco, San Mateo, Alameda, Contra Costa and Santa Clara Counties.
- "Forest" consultations are covered by the Forest-Foothills Branch. Most consultations in southern Mendocino County are also covered by the Forest-Foothills branch.
- Valley elderberry longhorn beetle issues in Lake, Napa and Solano counties are handled by the Sacramento Valley Branch.
- The Arcata Fish & Wildlife Office handles most projects in Mendocino County above the Russian River basin.
- The Bay-Delta Fish & Wildlife Office focuses on the issues that surround the restoration of the San Joaquin Bay Delta.
Red Bluff Fish & Wildlife Office (530) 527-3043
This independent office handles endangered species consultations with Shasta-Trinity and Mendocino National Forests, Whiskeytown National Recreation Area, and the Bureau of Land Management Redding Resource Area. It is a separate office, not a branch of the Sacramento office.
