Our Contaminants Division works to restore and maintain the environmental quality of California.

There are two branches, Bio-Monitoring and Natural Resources Damage Assessment (NRDA). Both branches can be contacted at (916) 414-6590.

  • The Bio-Monitoring Branch works on contaminants prevention and investigation. They conduct field studies to determine sources of pollution, to investigate pollution effects on fish and wildlife and their habitat and to investigate fish and wildlife die-offs. Learn more about their investigations.
  • When hazardous substances enter the environment, fish, wildlife, and other natural resources can be injured. Our NRDA Branch seeks to identify the natural resources injured, determine the extent of the injuries, recover damages from those responsible, and plan and carry out natural resource restoration activities. Learn more about their successes.
