EAGLES ON THE REFUGE

Refuge Eagle In Flight

One bald eagle nest exists at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal NWR, Commerce City, Adams County, Colorado. The nest was initiated in 1996, but there were no reproductive efforts until 2002. The nest fledged one eaglet each in 2002 and 2003, two eaglets in 2004, and one in 2005.

Unconfirmed report: There are 2 chicks in the nest! Come back soon for more information.

The Refuge was established largely due to the discovery of a communal winter roost of bald eagles here in 1986. Wintering eagle populations here in recent years have been lower than in the early 1990's, most likely due to reduced prey populations (prairie dogs/plague) and drought conditions.Eaglets In Nest 2004

Wintering eagles have now left the Refuge. Call 303-289-0390 for more information about the nesting eagles and the new chicks.
