Rod & Gun Club Restoration

Restoration work, beginning January 2009, was conducted in order to reduce the cattail cover previously found in the wetland east of the Rod & Gun Club viewing blind. Cattails were removed via excavation and the wetland was deepend to prevent over-growth of cattails. Banks were shaped and ramps created to allow wildlife access. Streambanks and areas damaged during the restoration process will be revegetated with native vegetation. The wetlands have been used by mule & white-tailed deer as well as Canada geese, great blue heron, and various duck species. A bald eagle was also spotted hunting in the area.

The Rod and Gun Club Viewing Blind provides a wonderful opportunity to learn about the importance of wetland habitat.

Visitors can hike for about two miles to the newly created wetland viewing blind where waterfowl, songbirds, ducks, wading birds and white-tailed deer can be seen. The beautiful interpretative displays are rich with information about the area and the wildlife. Well worth the hike!
