INVASIVE SPECIES ~ RUSSIAN KNAPWEED

Russian knapweed is a perennial belonging to the Sunflower family, Asteraceae.

It grows from spreading black roots to 36 to 40 inches in height.

Stems are erect and have deep, pinnate (compound leaf with leaflets arranged on opposite sides of the axis) lobed, alternate linear leaves.

Inflorescence (flowering part of the plant) is a cone shaped flower consisting of pink or purple disk florets, subtended by involucral bracts (whorl of bracts subtending a flower or flower cluster).
