Pierce National Wildlife Refuge

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service acquired Pierce NWR through a land donation of 319 acres made by the previous landowner Mrs. Lena Pierce. With an additional acquisiton, the Refuge is now 329 acres providing sanctuary for wintering waterfowl such as Canada geese, ducks, and other aquatic birds. One of the last remaining chum salmon runs exists in Hardy Creek, which flows through the Refuge and empties into the Columbia River. Visitors to neighboring Beacon Rock State Park may get a bird's-eye view from a trail on the rock and at the trail's destination viewpoint at the top. Visitors may also get views of the Refuge from a city trail located in the bordering town of North Bonneville
Pierce NWR is small in acreage with no public roads or walking trails leading into the Refuge. With the exception of special guided tours and educational activities allowed by special permit, the Refuge remains closed to the public.
