Metadata for Public Parking Lots

During 2000 and 2001, Federal Lands Highways (FLH), Central Federal Lands Division collected baseline geo-spatial data on all roads and parking lots for use with geographic information systems. This information is provided here for use by other federal agencies, state agencies, local governments and the public.

The data will be updated whenever new information is gathered.

Abstract:

This data set depicts public roads and related features such as parking lots that are located on National Wildlife  Refuges and National Fish Hatcheries.  Coverage is nationwide: this particular part of the set covers the upper midwest region. The primary source for this data is a survey conducted by the Federal Highway Administration during the years 2000 and 2001, using GPS units.

Purpose:

The intended application of the data is a baseline inventory of publicly used roads and related facilities in the National Wildlife Refuge System.  The Federal Highway Administration will fund maintenance on many of these facilities, but an inventory is required as part of that funding.

This data was collected using Trimble GPS receivers, and differentially corrected using base stations with 200 kilometers.  The receivers offer 1-3 meter resolution, depending on the time of the data collection and the ground cover.  This data was then exported using the WGS 1984 datum, in Latitude & Longitude coordinates.    Any use should not exceed these accuracy constraints.
