Fishing is allowed year-round (except on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day) in the Missouri River and Boyer Chute, except when the Chute is ice covered. Two fishing piers along the auto tour route offer barrier-free, over-water accessibility. Watercraft is prohibited in the Chute.
White-tailed deer and waterfowl hunting are expected to begin during the fall of 2003. Special regulations apply. Please contact the Refuge staff at the headquarters for more information.
A kiosk is located at the Main Parking Lot where the Lewis and Clark expedition is interpreted. Informational signs are placed along the Oriole and Meadowlark Trails.
The Refuge offers a 2.3 mile auto tour route that courses along the Boyer Chute. It will be paved during 2003. Rest room facilities are available at the Main, North, and South Chute Parking Lots. Five trails offer a variety of accessibility to woodland, grassland, and riparian habitats. Three trails originate from the Main Parking Lot: Four Mile Loop (grass), Oriole (.5 mi.- gravel), Meadowlark (.25 mi.- concrete, .25 mi. gravel) with the latter two containing pavilions with tables. The North Chute trail (100 yds.- gravel) and South Chute trail (.5 mi. - grass) offer visitors a view of the origin and mouth of the Chute. The north half of the Boyer Chute Island is open to the public.
The auto tour route and outdoor facilities are open daily during daylight hours, except Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year's Day. Office hours are from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday.
The Refuge does not charge an entrance fee.
The Refuge does not charge user fees (i.e., hunt fees, camping fees, boat launch, meeting rooms rental fees, auto tour fees, guided tour fees, etc.).
