  Recreation and Education Opportunities

Environmental Education
Environmental education at Target Rock NWR is mainly teacher-led. Educational groups can obtain a fee waiver and special use permit to conduct environmental education on the refuge by contacting the refuge's main headquarters. Informational and educational materials may be available upon request.

Fishing
Fishing from shore is a "reel" treat as anglers haul in striped bass and bluefish from Huntington Bay! State and Federal regulations apply.

Interpretation
An information kiosk and brochures are available at the trail head. These will introduce you to the wonders you'll discover as you explore the Refuge.

Wildlife Observation
The best time to view & photograph wildlife at Target Rock comes with spring as warblers pass through during migration. Hawks and owls also pass through, but are less conspicuous. Spring also brings the chipmunks out of hibernation. Although white-tailed deer have been absent from the area for about 40 years, Refuge staff and visitors are reporting an increasing number of deer and deer sign sightings. If you observe a deer on the Refuge, you're observing local wildlife history in the making!
