With advance notice, educational programs are available to organized groups throughout the year. The refuge provides three outdoor classroom sites for environmental education. Topics for school group presentations include: endangered species, migration, purpose and management of Montezuma NWR, careers with the USFWS, wetland values, animal adaptations, and habitat comparisons.
Although fishing and boating are prohibited in refuge waters, the refuge maintains a boat launch providing access to the state-owned Barge Canal. This site also provides bank fishing opportunities.
Public hunting, for waterfowl and deer, is permitted under special regulations on portions of the refuge during the state seasons. Contact the refuge for additional information.
The Visitor Center contains exhibits, leaflets and brochures, a film library, a gift shop and restrooms. Throughout the year guided tours and public programs are offered.
Hours The refuge is open daily during daylight hours. The Visitor Center is open (April 1 - November 30) weekends 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and weekdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Snow and ice generally keep the Wildlife Drive closed during the winter months.
There is no entrance fee for Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge. |
