Fishing
No fishing sites exist on the refuge. Boat launching and fishing from shore are not allowed.

Hunting
White-tailed deer management occurs on the refuge. Hunt participants are selected by lottery. Lottery applications are available by the end of July. Orientation, weapon qualifications and permits are required. Special hunt held for youth by the Department of Game and Inland Fisheries. Contact the refuge headquarters office for specific information.

Interpretation
Pay a visit to refuge volunteers at the Visitor Contact Station, open most weekends, to learn about the local wildlife, habitat, and upcoming events or programs or use our interpretative kiosks and information booths to choose a refuge trail or route to explore.

Wildlife Observation
A network of roads from the site’s military days forms the basis for trails and a wildlife drive. Approximately 4 miles of gravel roads are reserved for foot traffic only. The refuge also offers a 2-mile loop serving as a one way auto tour route. Photography opportunities are boundless along all refuge roads and trails open to the public. Visit the refuge’s photo blind situated on Marumsco Creek or the observation platform at the intersection of Fox and Deephole Point Roads. No pets are allowed on the refuge.

Hours
The refuge is currently open seven days a week. Winter hours (October-March) 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Summer hours (April-September) 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Refuge is closed a few days in November and December for managed deer hunts. Please contact the refuge office for details.

Entrance Fees
Fees may be paid at the visitor contact station or deposited in the fee box at the entrance. Passes may be purchased at refuge headquarters or the visitor contact station. Accepted passes include: Daily Passes: Private Vehicle $2.00, Foot or Bicycle (Children 15 under admitted free) $1.00, Commercial Bus or Van: Less than 20 people $20.00, Over 20 people $30.00. Annual Passes: Occoquan Bay NWR Annual Pass $10.00, Federal Duck Stamp $15.00, Interagency Annual Pass $80.00, Military Pass (Active military and dependents) FREE. Lifetime Passes: Senior Pass (US Citizens & residents 62 or older) $10.00, Access Pass (Disabled U.S. Citizens & residents) FREE.
Private vehicle - $2.00
Pedestrian - $1.00
Bicyclist - $1.00
Commercial van or bus up to 20 passengers - $20.00
