  Recreation and Education Opportunities

Environmental Education
Environmental Education programs are provided for school groups. Many of the programs and workshops held year-round, are educational as well.

A teacher workshop is held in the Spring and Fall.

Wildlife Observation
There are many opportunities to observe and photograph wildlife along the 12-mile wildlife drive. Many species can be seen from the car. Along the wildlife drive are 5 walking trails, three trails have 30 foot observation towers. Two trails are handicapped accessible.

Because of the abundance of wetland habitat on the refuge, mosquitoes, and biting fly populations are very high from June through September. During these months, the refuge staff suggests you wear long sleeves and slacks, and bring insect repellent and a headnet when you visit.

Hours
Refuge open sunrise to sunset daily. Check for closures due to inclement weather and partial closures during hunting season. Includes self-guided auto-tour, trails, and other outdoor activities.

Visitor Center Hours:

Monday - Friday year round, 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

Saturday and Sunday - Spring (March-May) and Fall weekends (September-November) 9:00am - 5:00pm

Closed Federal Holidays.

Entrance Fees
Visitor Center / Refuge Store is free. Includes exhibits and videos. Daily fee required to pass beyond Visitor Center. All passengers in a vehicle may enter free if at lease one passenger holds a Federal Duck Stamp, Interagency Annual Pass, Annual Military Pass, Interagency Senior Pass, Interagency Access Pass, or Bombay Hook Annual Pass. Non-profit groups, schools, church groups, etc. conducting educational field trips may be granted free entrance. Please call office for details. (302)653-6872.
