Located approximately 25 miles south of Charleston, South Carolina, the Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge is a relatively undiscovered treasure. With its 1828 Plantation House and expansive rice field impoundments teeming with wildlife, there is something for everyone to enjoy on a visit there.
Fishing is available on the Combahee Unit of the Refuge at Bonny Hall from April 1 - August 31. More information can be found in our Fishing Brochure, which can be downloaded from our website. Hunting is allowed on the Refuge during specific times and only with specific weapons. More information can be found in our annual Hunt Brochure which serves also as the Refuge Hunt Permit. This may be downloaded from our website. The Ernest F. Hollings ACE Basin National Wildlife Refuge offers a variety of recreational activities to all visitors including archery and muzzleloader deer hunting, waterfowl hunting, picnicing, hiking, fresh and saltwater fishing, canoeing, wildlife watching, photography and environmental education. Special events and programs are held throughout the year for visitors to learn more about the ACE Basin and National Wildlife Refuges.
Refuge grounds are open daylight to dark year round. If front gate is closed or if it is near 4 PM, you may park outside the fence and walk in to the refuge. Refuge office and front gate are open 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday. Office is closed on weekends and all federal holidays.
