|Tiny Mille Lacs Refuge has one of only four common tern breeding colonies in Minnesota.|
Fishing is a popular sport within Lake Mille Lacs and is regulated by the State of Minnesota.
Interpretive signs describing the common tern nesting colony are located at major boat-access points around Lake Mille Lacs.
The refuge is accessible only by boat and is marked with a "limited disturbance" area. Landing on the island is discouraged, but colonial birds can be observed from offshore.
