  Recreation and Education Opportunities

Fishing
Fishing, crabbing, and crawfishing are allowed at the refuge in accordance with state regulations on Champion Lake. Please contact the refuge for information on current regulations.

Hunting
Waterfowl hunting through a lottery draw is permitted on Champion Lake. Contact the refuge for information on current regulations.

Wildlife Observation
Wildlife observation and photography opportunities abound at Trinity River NWR. Over 61 different species of butterflies have been counted during annual Butterfly Counts and over 275 bird species occur in the bottomland forest. A new observation/fishing pier was dedicated on March 14, 2003 at the refuge and a short levee trail is available. Canoes, kayaks, and boats using 10 hp motors or less are also welcome.
