|Aransas NWR is the wintering location for the last migrating population of whooping cranes.|
Wade fishing access to San Antonio Bay is open April 15 - October 15 at the Fishing Pier Area, Bay Overlook, Dagger Point, Birding Trail #2 and the Boardwalk. Kayak and canoe launching is permitted from these points April 15- October 15. Year-round pier and wade fishing is permitted at the Fishing Pier Area only. All state regulations apply. Please contact the refuge for information on areas open to fishing.
Archery and firearms hunts for white-tailed deer and feral hogs may be held in late fall or winter. Contact the refuge in late summer for information.
The Wildlife Interpretive Center offers refuge information, exhibits, environmental education, wildlife programs and a nature bookstore.
We invite you to take the auto tour, walk the trails and stop by our Wildlife Interpretive Center. You can also ascend the observation tower, wander along a boardwalk through a marsh, and picnic while overlooking San Antonio Bay.
Visitor Center: Starting May 1, 2013, the visitor center is open Thursday through Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. October 1 - April 30 the visitor center is open daily from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. It is closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
The visitor center has restrooms open to the public.
The refuge honors and sells the following passes: Federal Duck Stamps: $15.00; Aransas Annual Pass: $15.00; America the Beautiful Passes: Annual Pass: $80.00; Senior Pass (Golden Age Passport): $10.00; Access Pass (Golden Eagle Passport): free with proof of disability. You must have a valid ID to purchase passes.
