Refuge facilities are available to teachers and other educators to help promote an understanding of wildlife and the natural environment.
Game fish in Lake Lowell include largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, perch, crappie, bluegill, rainbow trout, channel catfish, and brown bullhead. Some areas of the refuge are closed to protect wildlife, so watch for signs and check the map.
Waterfowl, coot, upland game, and mourning dove hunting is permitted in the Snake River Sector and designated areas of the Lake Lowell Sector during State seasons. All hunters are required to use non-toxic shot and may not possess lead shot in the field.
Deer Flat National Wildlife Refuge has several upcoming events. Contact the refuge for more information about these events.
Many excellent opportunities are available for wildlife observation and photography. Over 190 species of birds have been seen on the refuge. The best season for viewing a wide variety of wildlife is from September through December.
The refuge is open all year during daylight hours. Wildlife is generally most active in the mornings and early evenings.
The Visitor Center is open weekdays from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M. and Saturdays from 10:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M, except on Federal holidays.
Some areas of the refuge are closed year-round or during particular seasons. Be sure to check the refuge map and observe signs.
