 To protect sensitive species, the refuge is closed to the public, but it can be seen from the Menehune Fish Pond Overlook. From Lihue, go south on Rice Street (which turns into Waapa Road) toward Nawiliwili Harbor near Kalapaki Beach. About half a mile from the harbor, turn right at the Menehune Fish Pond sign onto Hulemalu Road. Continue 0.6 miles to the overlook on your right. Contact the refuge office for a "Kaua'i National Wildlife Refuge Complex Watchable Wildlife" brochure.
