The deciduous riparian woodland and mesquite woodland community in the upper Muddy River system provides habitat for a host of wildlife, including dragonflies and damselflies, butterflies, birds such as greater roadrunner, summer tanager, phainopepla, vermilion flycatcher, and Gambel's quail, coyotes, bats, and other small mammals.
