  Wildlife and Habitat
Continued . . .

The refuge's largest pool, almost 2,000 acres, is surrounded by a dike and a few wooded areas. There are also smaller diked wetlands and a borrow area that is used as a fishing area. The smaller wooded areas are home to two bald eagle nests. There are many wood ducks nesting on the refuge.

The marsh provides an important resting area for many species of migrating waterfowl. Many species of songbirds use trees during migration, and the beach provides a feeding and resting area for shorebirds and gulls.
