Held each May, the annual Katchamak Bay Shorebird Festival has become a "must" event for both birders and photographers from Alaska and elsewhere. Experience the off-shore world of this refuge at its state of the art interpretive center, Alaska Island & Ocean Visitor Center, in Homer, Alaska. Discover the sights and sounds of a seabird colony in the Seabird Experience Theater. Explore ocean connections on the interactive globe, One Big Ocean. Learn about the unique history of this refuge at the trappers cabin, the Attu World War II cave and the "egging cliff." Take a vicarious journey to the Aleutian's when you watch the refuge's new film, Journey of the Tiglax, in the center's auditorium. Accompany a refuge naturalist to look for birds and beach life in Beluga Slough and along the shores of Kachemak Bay.
