At National Wildlife Refuges
It’s your nature: Explore it at a national wildlife refuge. You won’t lack for what to do. Refuges are fairly bursting with free or low-cost special events as summer turns to fall. Thrills await, whether you visit a refuge to see wildlife, enjoy a hike or a paddle, or catch a bass or a bluegill.
Wildlife refuges can help you get fit while you're seeing wildlife up close. Get in the nature habit and stimulate your senses and soothe your mind with a walk in a tranquil outdoor setting.
In 2010 more than 40 million people visited a national wildlife refuge, generating about $4.2 billion in economic activity, according to an October 2011 report commissioned by the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, a nonprofit conservation organization.
