Sacramento Sewards – Sacramento River NWR Complex, California

The partnership between the Sacramento River Complex National Wildlife Refuge and Chico Junior High School was established as a pilot program for the newly formed Earth Stewards program in 1994. With generous funding from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, guidance from the National Fish and Wildlife Service, and dedication from both the refuge and Chico educators, the program was efficiently implemented and continues to thrive.

This particular education program focuses on the exploration of flora and fauna in the vast wetlands encompassing the majority of the refuge employees, students are educated about the diversity of waterfowl and other species in the wetland habitat as well as the related importance of water quality.
