Time of Event: 3 to 10pm

Event Description: Hundreds, sometimes thousands, of chimney swifts stop off in downtown Jonestown, Texas, for part of the year. During this time, the small birds make a historic cistern in the middle of downtown their home. To anyone’s knowledge, no other city in the United States is known to have these beautiful birds in such concentrated numbers in an area so accessible to the public. Swift Fest in Jonestown is a celebration of this city's unique natural phenomenon. The festival is centered around the Swift Drop -- the birds evening return to their cistern home and a tornado-like site fascinating to see. Guess the number of Swifts returning and win a prize! Games for children of all ages include activities to learn about Chimney Swifts, nature and encourage them to get outside to enjoy, explore and learn! Live music features swing, jazz, Americana and bluegrass. Between music sets, the public can sit in on a presentation on sustainability – helpful information on how homeowners can save money while creating a greener environment at home. Under the cool shade of old oak trees, Swift Fest includes a range of nature-themed vendors, food and beverages. Swift Fest is hosted by the City of Jonestown and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
