March Presentation – The Archaeology of Pantry Brook Village on the Davis Farm, Sudbury: Wednesday, March 27th at 7pm Shirley Blancke will report for the first time about the 70 year old archaeological excavation of "Pantry Brook Village" on the Sudbury River, on Davis Farm, Sudbury. This 7000 year-old, multi-layered archeological site is a comparative rarity in Massachusetts. Initially excavated in 1940-41 by the newly founded Massachusetts Archaeological Society, the excavation involved over thirty people, including renowned Harvard anthropologists and local artifact collectors. World War II intervened and the work was never reported on. Work on the Concord Museum collections has made it possible to recover this information, reported here with pictures of people involved and artifacts, and an analysis of faunal and floral remains. Shirley Blancke is Associate Curator of the Concord Museum, a position she has held for many decades. Friends of the Assabet River NWR hold its monthly members meeting every fourth Wednesday of the month. Talks are free and open to the public. A short business meeting will take place before the presentation. For more information about our programs, membership and the Refuge please visit farnwr.org |
