||On Saturday, October 13, Sacramento and Delevan National Wildlife Refuges (NWR) will be celebrating their 75th and 50th anniversaries. Visitors are encouraged to come out and enjoy the activities, demonstrations, wildlife observation, behind-the-scenes tours, and more from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.
The day will include family activities, heavy equipment displays, airboat demonstrations, carving demonstrations, duck drawing, and the winning art from the California Junior Duck Stamp Program will be on display throughout the day near the visitor center at Sacramento NWR. Staff and volunteers will be at the auto tour platform with a spotting scopes to assist visitors with wildlife viewing. A talk about the History of the Civilian Conservation Crew on Sacramento NWR will occur at 11 a.m. This will include a walk behind-the-scenes to see some of their remaining structures.
Behind-the-scenes birdwatching tours will occur on areas not typically open to the public. The tour on Delevan NWR will be from 10 a.m. – noon and Sacramento NWR’s tour will be 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. A special photography talk and tour will be given from 9 a.m. – noon. These tours are limited and preregistration is highly recommended.
Come out and celebrate your local refuges as birds begin their journey back from the north.
