Monitoring
Atmospheric Deposition Monitoring
Wet deposition monitoring was initiated in 2004 at Ambler in Northwest Arctic Burough, Alaska as part of the National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP). Ambler is approximately 600mi northeast of the St. Matthew Island group. Monitoring ended in 2005. The site I.D. was AK99. The closest active site is at Denali National Park approximately 700mi east of the St. Matthew Island group. The site I.D. is AK03.

Mercury Monitoring
Wet deposition monitoring for mercury analysis was initiated in 2004, as part of the NADP/Mercury Deposition Network (MDN) at Ambler in Northwest Arctic Burough, Alaska. Monitoring ended in 2005. Ambler is approximately 600mi northeast of the St. Matthew Island group. The site I.D. was AK99.

Visibility Monitoring
Visibility is not monitored in Bering Sea NWR. However, visibility has been monitored in Simeonof NWR with an Interagency Monitoring of Protected Visual Environments (IMPROVE) aerosol sampler since 2001.
The Visibility Information Exchange Web System (VIEWS) site below gives access to air quality data, research and ideas designed to understand the effects of air pollution on visibility. Also provided are the links to the IMPROVE website and Simeonof NWR overview and data.
