Shellfish Harvesting

  • General Information

    Clams and oysters may be harvested from two areas of the Long Island Oyster Reserve on the west side of Long Island. All state regulations apply. These tidelands are boat-access only. Respect private and commercial shellfish beds. Camping and vault toilets are available on Long Island.

  • Licenses and Regulations

    You must have a Washington State Shellfish Licence to harvest clams and oysters in the Long Island Oyster Reserve at Diamond Point or Pinnacle Rock. All state regulations apply.

     Clams, such as Manilla and native littlenecks, must be 1.5 inches in length across the longest distance of the shell. Daily limit is no more than 40 clams, not to exceed 10 pounds in the shell, all species combined.

    Oysters may be harvested by hand only and each harvester must use a separate container. Minimum size is 2.5 inches measured across longest distance of shell. Daily limit is 18 oysters. Oysters MUST be shucked on the beach. Leave shells on the same tideland and tide height where they were taken. Oysters consumed on the beach count toward a limit.

  • Diamond Point

    The Diamond Point tideland is located on the northwest tip of Long Island. Shellfish harvesting is open to the public in accordance with State regulations west on reserve tidelands to mean lower low water between reserve monuments 39, 40 and 41. Be respectful of commercial and privately owned tidelands.

  • Pinnacle Rock

    The Pinnacle Rock tideland is located on the southwest side of Long Island. Shellfish harvesting is open to the public in accordance with State regulations west on reserve tidelands to mean lower low water between reserve monuments 58 and 59. Be respectful of commercial and privately owned tidelands.
