Fall Color Float

October 5th, 2013Canoeing on the Manistique River

Take a beautiful float down the Manistique River and see the beautiful fall colors.  Join refuge staff for a 4-5 hour canoe/kayak trip October 5th, 2013. Early October is a beautiful time to visit the Refuge as the leaves will be changing color. Pack a lunch, dress for the weather (could be warm or cool), and remember to pre-register so we know that you're coming. Bring your own boat or rent one from one of the local outfitters.

Contact Sara Giles for more details at Sara_Giles@fws.gov or call (906) 586-9851 x10 . There are local outfitters in Germfask who offer canoe and kayak rentals as well as shuttle service.

Rain Date

If it is raining, snowing, or below 45 degrees the "Fall Color Float" will be cancelled on October 5th and rescheduled for the following day, Sunday, October 6th, 2013. If the weather is still not cooperating we will cancel the trip for the year.

We have enjoyed the "Fall Color Float" on days as cold as 45°F. As long as you dress appropriately it is still a lovely day. We suggest dressing in layers and bring an extra set of clothes in a water tight bag. Because of the chill in the air only experienced paddlers are encouraged to attend this event.
