Due to fire conditions, all units of the National Bison Range Complex within Lake County are under Stage I Fire Restrictions. The units include the National Bison Range, Ninepipe National Wildlife Refuge, Pablo National Wildlife Refuge, Lost Trail National Wildlife Refuge and the Northwest Montana Waterfowl Management Area (the Waterfowl Production Areas in Lake and Flathead County).

Restrictions are as follows:

  • Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire is prohibited with the exception of fire fueled solely by liquid petroleum or LPG.  No fires are allowed in the fire rings in the Day Use Area at the National Bison Range.
  • Smoking is allowed only within an enclosed vehicle or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren and cleared of all flammable materials (such as a parking lot). DO NOT throw cigarette butts outside of vehicles.
  • Also, do not park in dry grass. Use graveled and/or paved pullouts at all times.

Conditions may change quickly throughout the rest of the summer. To protect your public lands, please be aware of fire danger and act accordingly.
