Mingo Swamp Photo Contest

Best in Show 2013 Cypress at Dawn by Fred GraysonEach year Mingo National Wildlife Refuge and the Mingo Swamp Friends work together to offer the Mingo Swamp Flora and Fauna Photo Contest.  The main purpose of this contest is to promote public awareness of the beauty, value, and uniqueness of Mingo National Wildlife Refuge.

The Mingo Swamp Flora and Fauna Photo Contest is free to enter and is open to both amateur and professional photographers of all ages. The categories include:

Youth (17 & under as of August 1, 2014): Mingo Landscape, People in Nature, Native Wildlife, Native Plant, and Artistically Enhanced

Adult (18+ years of age): Mingo Landscape, People in Nature, Native Wildlife, Native Plant, and Artistically Enhanced

Professional (anyone, of any age, who earns more than 1/2 of their income from photography): All professional entries judged in one category.

How to Apply:

Entry is FREE; there is no limit to the number of photographs that may be entered. Photographs may be original or duplicated copies, black & white or color, of variable shape and size, but MUST fit within 10” X 14.” No slides will be accepted.

Entries MUST arrive at the office by 4:00 p.m. on FRIDAY, AUG. 1, 2014. Entries may be mailed* or hand-delivered to Mingo NWR.

All entries must be accompanied by;
1. a completed ENTRY FORM—available here or at the Mingo NWR Visitor Center

2. a completed U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service “Copyright Release Agreement” (FWS Form 3- 2259)- available here or at www.fws.gov/forms/3-2259.pdf or Mingo NWR Visitor Center*

3. Photos will not be returned unless a self-addressed stamped envelope is included with your entries.

Prizes:

Best of Show and Alternate Best of Show Photos will be used to make a Mingo National Wildlife Refuge Postcard that will be sold in the bookstore of the Visitor Center.

The Postcard will feature the title of the photograph along with the photographer’s name. Best of Show, Alternate Best of Show, and the First and Second Place winners in each category will receive a certificate of recognition or a ribbon.

Rights to Use:

All entrants agreed to allow Mingo Swamp Friends and Mingo National Wildlife Refuge rights to publish winning photos in future promotional publications without compensation.

Upon entry of photo contest, participants acknowledge that neither Mingo NWR, Mingo Swamp Friends, nor any sponsors of the contest are responsible for lost or damaged photographs, or liable for copyright or other legal disputes that may arise from this competition.

All winning photographs will remain in the care of Mingo Swamp Friends and Mingo NWR until August 2015 while going on exhibit at the Mingo NWR Visitor Center and other public locations.

All entries that did not place are available for pick up at the Refuge Office, or if you enclosed a self-addressed stamped (SASE) envelope, we will get those back to you.
