Fishing

General Information About Fishing at J. Clark Salyer NWR 

 

  • Signs stating "Public Fishing Area" are posted at each area open for fishing.
  • Fishing and boating shall be in accordance with all State laws and requirements set forth by the Refuge.
  • Boat fishing is allowed only in designated areas.
  • Boat fishing is closed the last Friday in September.
  • All Refuge waters are open to ice fishing between December 15 and the end of the State fishing season.
  • Fishermen are cautioned to beware of thin ice, particularly near water control structures.
  • The Refuge is open daily from 5:00 am to 10:00 pm.
  • Overnight camping is prohibited.
  • Pack out all trash and garbage.  Littering is prohibited.
  • For safety, all public access to water control structures is prohibited.
  • Open fires on the ground or the ice are prohibited.
