Rules and Regulations

Harbor Island National Wildlife Refuge is open during daylight hours only.
Access to the island is by boat.
Fishing is permitted in Lake Huron and is regulated by the Michigan Department of Natural Resources.
White-tailed deer and black bear hunting is permitted according to state and federal regulations. Federal regulations include the prohibition of bait and dogs to hunt black bear and white-tailed deer on refuge lands.
Hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, wildlife observation, photography, mushroom hunting, and fruit picking are welcomed.
Remember to pack out all garbage.
Fires, camping, and off road vehicles are not permitted on the island.
