1. What is the Refuge Rambler Club/Program?The Refuge Rambler Club is a fun new program designed to encourage people to go outside, explore the tails of the Don Edwards SF Bay National Wildlife Refuge, get fit, and meet new people with similar interests. The Refuge has over 30 miles of hiking trails scattered in the cities of Fremont, Union City, Menlo Park, Mountain View, San Jose, and Sunnyvale. Trails featured in this program range from 1.5 miles to up to 9 miles. It is self-paced and there is no time limit to complete a trail. 2. How Does the Program Work?Once you sign up, you will receive a Refuge Rambler Patch identifying you as a member, a trail passport, a schedule when and where the walks take place, and a description of the trails. Show up at the designated time and place where a refuge volunteer or staff will be the point of contact. The refuge staff/volunteer will place a sticker on your trail passport. He or she will also walk the trails. If you complete 7 of 8 of the featured trails, you will get an All-Star T-shirt. 3. Who can join?Anyone can join!4. Does it cost anything to join? This program is free.
5. How do I find out when and where these walks take place?
Walks will be advertised in the San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge’s newsletter the Tideline, the Don Edwards San Francisco Bay National Wildlife Refuge web site and various other local eco web sites.6. Do I need to be a member to join in on the walks?No, you do not have to be a member. If only one or two walks interests you, you can just show up at the designated time and place.7. What if I want to join the walking club after completing one or more of the walks? Can I get credit for those walks?Yes. You will get credit for the walks.8. Are reservations needed?No.9. What if I can’t do the entire length of the trail?These walks are self-paced. Complete what you can and turn back at any time.10. What is the an All-Star and how do I get one?The Refuge Rambler Achievement Award is when you complete 7 of the 8 trails. Turn in your passport via mail or in person and you will receive a free t-shirt.11.
