[This list was updated April 19, 2016.]Below is a list of commercial companies who have participated in polar bear guide workshops committed to building professional, safe, and responsible polar bear viewing practices, and are seeking authorization to operate on Arctic National Wildlife Refuge lands and waters. These businesses offer additional motor boat transportation services.
It is illegal to provide commercial services within the Refuge without permitted authorization. We cannot predict which businesses will pursue--or be granted--authorization into the future. It is the visitor's responsibility to confirm the validity of guides.
To be authorized for any of these activities, the company must meet insurance requirements of the State of Alaska, and use boat operators who have a US Coast Guard license, prior to obtaining a U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service special use permit for commercial operations in the Refuge. All the operators are private companies not affiliated with the U.S. government. This information is offered as a public service and does not constitute an endorsement by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

one of Planet Earth's own works of art. This one symbolizes freedom: freedom to continue, unhindered and forever if we are willing, the particular story of Planet Earth unfolding here." - Lowell Sumner (pioneering NPS biologist)
