From its start in 1903, the National Wildlife Refuge System has owed its very existence to concerned citizens eager to protect America's natural resources. Become a volunteer by filling out an application and contribute your strength on behalf of America’s natural resources.

Friends of the Wichitas
Interested citizens formed this local independent association to provide additional services to the refuge and the ever-growing number of visitors.  Members take pride in the refuge and believe all citizens should share in the responsibilities of caring for their public lands.

Volunteering Experiences
Want to have fun, meet new people, help wildlife? Become a volunteer with the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge.  Volunteers are actively involved in many of the refuge programs. Volunteers put in more than 13,000 volunteer hours each year to directly benefit the wildlife and habitat of the refuge.

RV Volunteer Program
Wichita Mountains offers a volunteer village complete with six RV sites and a kitchen and utility area. RV volunteers from all over the country and all walks of life visit and volunteer. Volunteers share their camp areas with turkeys and elk and get to experience some of the most rewarding wildlife work in the country.

Local Volunteers/Groups

A wide array of volunteer activities are available for local individuals and groups. There are some projects suitable for high school term papers, as well as college-level independent study projects.

If you would like to volunteer for the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge please contact us at wichitamountains@fws.gov.
