The following is a partial list of the rules and regulations at Swan Lake National Wildlife Refuge.

  • The refuge is open during daylight hours only.
  • Camping is not allowed at the refuge, however excellent facilities are available at Pershing State Park on State Highway 130, seven miles north of the refuge.
  • To decrease disturbances for the large concentration of migrating waterfowl, the interior of the refuge is closed for public access from the end of October until the first Saturday of March each year, except for access to goose hunting located in designated areas to protect the interior of the refuge from disturbances.
  • Fishing is permitted according to state regulations only when the refuge is open. However, all fishing is prohibited during managed deer hunts.
