The refuge is open daily from 8am to sunset. The entrance gates close automatically at sunset. Visitors access the refuge via State Highway 57. Roads throughout the refuge are paved and visitors must maintain the posted speed limit of 25 miles per hour due to the presence of big game.

A year-round resident at Sullys Hill National Game Preserve, the pileated woodpecker carves an ellongated hole in dead trees. Look (and listen) for pileated woodpeckers hammering at dead trees in search of food.
